Tell us about your family, and what’s your childcare solution?
I have been happily married for seven years to my biggest supporter, Doug. I have one energetic and independent three-year-old, Tanner! Anyone who knows me knows my family would not be complete without my three cats and big lovable golden retriever. Tanner began preschool in August at a local center (we love) full-time after being home with a nanny since he was six months.
Where do you work, and what is a typical workday like for you?
I work for ADP (Automatic Data Processing) and have for seven years in May! I am a small business sales representative and am cururently studying for my securities license after accepting a promotion in early February. I typically work remotely two days a week and in "the field" two to three days a week.
What motivates you to work? How do you like to relax?
Personally, one of my biggest goals is to open a nonprofit in the triangle for animals. As I mentioned, my family and I are big animal people and are blessed to provide them with a loving home. Professionally, I want to be able to support small business as they begin their journey of opening/maintaining a business in this ever-changing world.
Daily, I am motivated by Tanner’s big smile and even bigger personality. Each day I am reminded by Doug what I am capable of and not to settle! My aunt is a BIG motivator for me as well. Anyone who can beat cancer three times and continue to have a positive outlook on life is truly an inspiration.
Relaxing for me is exercising! Both Doug and I are big fitness people, and I joke that one of the best parts of vacation is being able to spend extra time at the gym. Reading, cooking and spending time with Doug and Tanner are some of the most relaxing times for me as well. Trying new recipes and enjoying a great meal with them is perfect!
What is your favorite part of motherhood?
One of my favorite parts of motherhood is watching the light bulb turn on and seeing the world through Tanner’s eyes. The first time he figured out that puzzle, the joy in his eyes sliding down the slide at the playground and the bond between him and our golden (they have a love/hate relationship:)).
What is one of your favorite Restored events to date? Why is it your favorite?
Restored, has been a big part of my life for the past few years after being introduced by my neighbor. I love being able to meet with other mamas who have or have gone through similar things. I also enjoy that there are events with and without children (sometimes it’s great to kick back and just be you - not Mom). It has impacted me personally by remembering that you can't do it all or alone - it truly takes a tribe!!
One of my favorite events to date would be the Mom’s Meet & Greet at the Mission Market in downtown Apex. It was lovely meeting new faces and talking about all types of things from our kids, to our jobs, and just life. The park playdates also are one of my favorites. What better way to kick off your Saturday!?
Can you share how you overcome challenges related to the “mom chaos” that settles in when you feel pulled in 100 directions?
"Mom chaos!" Two words were all too familiar with. For me, when I get overwhelmed, tired or frustrated, a few things work for me. One, stopping and taking a deep breath (things can always be worse). Two, reaching out to my support network. I have been blessed meeting some amazing women who have helped me from everything with borrowing an egg to just letting me vent! Third, a list! We all have them, and I always say I have a list for the list!!
Besides your faith and family, what are you passionate about?
Besides my faith and family, I am passionate about travel and being the best I can be. Before the pandemic, Doug and I did a lot of traveling and spent some time in Roma, Italy. Our next big trip will be back to Italy for more time, wine and great food. I'll leave you with this, everyone's journey is different, and it's not how quickly we get there, it's all the twists and turns along the way!
